Do I need one more project? Do I need one more new skill? Am I going through this process as I should? Is my career going as it should be? Am I too slow or too fast? Am I learning anything from this? Do I test everything I learn. Do I unlearn what doesn’t serve me fast enough?
Can I ever fully optimise everything around my skill, my career, my life and finally take some rest without the feeling that I am falling behind?
Being constantly bombed with messages that trigger all these questions made me a relentless person. Sometimes for my best, other times for my worst.
If you’re in tech industry you probably know about the “happy flow” and constant optimisation of the code, algorithm, conversions, results.
If you’re, however, non tech person, let me explain this really quick.
It’s a concept used to describe an ideal process flow. It’s how the processes should look like in an ideal context without any disturbance, and where nothing goes wrong. Ever.
It’s used in product management when you want to set operational processes for different teams, and to explain how the product should be developed, tested, and shipped. As well as how the product should be used.
Surprisingly, there is no ideal environment in the really life. More than often things go wrong. Life happens. Sometimes, it’s the bug that can be detected and solved, sometimes it’s just the wrong hypothesis of how the things should work.
So, for all generalists who have love and hate relationship with specialisation of any kind. For all you people out there being more into renaissance approach I’ve decided to start this community symbolically named (Un)happy flow.
The only definition and the niche I will choose is career development. However, do expect everything to be mixed and (un)matched. As career is not some bubble wrap existing in some untouchable space.
When it comes to the format expect little bit of everything - stories, conversation, interviews, books or podcast recommendations…
My idea today is that this letter goes out once a week, on Sundays. That would be a happy flow.
The circumstances, however will show us if the shipment will follow the plan.
So let the new project begins!
Love,
Bojana.
